Northampton Theatre Royal
Director: Laurie Sansom
Muriel Spark's classic story about Miss Brodie - an inspirational and dangerously charismatic 1930's Edinburgh schoolteacher, opera fanatic and fascist sympathiser, who rejoices in her influence over 'her' girls, only to be betrayed by her leading protege after her influence leads to tragedy. Jon's score mixed soaring orchestral music, a live choir of schoolgirls singing (amongst other things) 1930's Italian Fascist marching songs, and brooding ambient soundscapes summoning troubled and complex pasts.
This production was restaged for the 2009 Edinburgh Festival as a co-production with the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms, to huge critical acclaim.
